we are concerned about senior safetyRural/Metro Medical Services is a premier provider of Emergency Medical Services serving Erie and Niagara County. We respond to over 300 calls per day, and over 110,000 calls per year. Every day our first responders, along with our partner volunteer firefighters, are coming across an increasing number of seniors in need of medical assistance many of which are preventable accidents. As first responders, Rural/Metro realizes the importance of fall prevention among seniors living at home.

More than one-third of adults 65 and older fall each year. In 2008, almost 2 million seniors were treated in US hospital emergency departments for fall injuries. Because these falls occur, HomeHelpLine will increase the level of security in the home, giving our subscribers and their loved ones peace of mind.

These falls can take an emotional toll on seniors and their families. The CDC says that 86% of the population provides some level of care for a parent or relative. In fact 31% find their care-giving to be emotionally stressful. These statistics also show that both the caregiver and their loved one want to maintain their independence in their home for as long as possible. Rural/Metro’s HomeHelpLine allows seniors to stay in their home longer, knowing that help is available at the push of a button.

The CDC has developed four lifestyle changes that can help lower seniors’ chances of falling. Please refer to the CDC brochure for their Falls Prevention Checklist.
